Good News!!!

We are living in times where everyone could certainly use some good news right about now!! I suffer with the addiction of being a news junkie and trying to withdraw from that addiction is not so easy. Growing up, I never used to care much for the news when it came on TV. I would make sure I listened to the sports newscast give the latest news about sports and the weather man as he gave the forecast on what the weather would be the next day. The rest of the news seemed so boring so I made the decision not to watch or listen to it.

As I grew older and began to realize there was a world around me taking place, filled with all kinds of news that was very applicable to my life as an adult, I suddenly grew very interested to what was going in our city, our nation and world. As I began to take note of the current news, I was totally amazed at how much bad stuff was taking place all around me. It so intrigued me that I became hooked; I became a news junkie!!

So many people today fail to stay in touch with what is happening in our city, nation and world. They go about living their lives not realizing all that is happening around them. When I was younger, I would hear people at work talking about all the bad stuff that was taking place in the world and it sort of freaked me out so I turned a deaf ear to everything they were saying; what a huge mistake that was.

Being informed about what is going on is so very important for one to know. It gives you wisdom, helps you make better decisions and informs you as what is really happening in your world.

Going back to me being a news junkie, as I watched the news as of late, it’s so very hard not to become depressed, discouraged, and even despondent, not having a sense of hope to go on. With everything we have seen as of late, with just the Coronavirus, it can surely rob one of hope and replace the void left behind with great fear.

Just look at how many people who have committed suicide since the Coronavirus has come into the picture and the countless people who are now suffering with great depression and anxiety because of the Coronavirus; it’s heartbreaking to see. Thousands of people are out of work, some small business owners have sadly had to shut down their businesses.

Today when you turn on the news or read the newspaper, all you hear or read anymore is nothing but bad news. When you add the current Presidential election and everything which has taken place with that on top of the Coronavirus, it’s too much for our hearts and minds to take in.

In Luke 2 we read the account of the birth of Jesus. We discover some unknown shepherds were living out in the fields keeping watch over their sheep when suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared to them and it said the glory of the Lord shone around them. We read they were terrified. If an angel showed up in our room right now, we would probably faint out of fear, much less with the glory of the Lord shinning all around us.

There have been times when I have watched the news or read the newspaper and found myself being terrified about what I was hearing and reading. Luke 2:10 “But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people

Needing some good news of great joy right about now my friend: well here it is; a Savior has been born to you! If you already know Jesus Christ as your Savior, then this is just a reminder that He is still in control of all things. If you don’t know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, then what good news of great joy to hear at this time!
