With the great technology available to us today, they can now make things in movies seem so real to the human eye. From car crashes, to falling off buildings, to unreal stunts and so much more that we see in movies and even TV shows. We can tell we’ve come a long way from what we once thought was so amazing.
If we were to be real honest with ourselves, all those action movies, all those amazing stunts, all those crazy special effects are so far from being truth/reality. Sadly, some people/kids, because they thought what they saw in a movie or TV show could actually be done, sadly paid the ultimate price as they failed to re-enact what they saw
I was never much of an adventurous, a risk taker growing up, although as I look back at some of the crazy things I did in my earlier years, it was by the grace and mercy of the Lord I even survived some of the stuff I did
If we could only talk to the doctors and nurses who work in the emergency rooms, the ambulance drivers who bring people to the emergency rooms who thought they were invincible or thought they could pull something off, we would think very differently about the next crazy stunt we thought we could pull off
It’s amazing how much we will pay to see others take risks we would never think of taking, to see those who risk their lives so we could be entertained.
I love watching the performers in Cirque De Solis shows in Las Vegas and the amazing/unbelievable things they do and the agility and precision with which they performed those stunts. I can’t even imagine how much training and sore muscles these performers endure just so you and I can be thrilled.
As I was talking with one of my firefighter/paramedic friends, he told me I would be surprised at how often they have to respond to attend to someone in a show who didn’t perform the impossible that night and injured themselves badly
When we became followers of Jesus Christ, I don’t think any of us thought as this new life in Christ would require we be risk-takers. If we did, sadly many of us would have had second thoughts.
The Lord is always asking His followers to do things they would never do on their own. We find one example of this in in Genesis 12:1 “The Lord had said to Abram, ‘Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you” (emphasis added)
There are people today who would say, ‘That’s not such a big thing; I have traveled the world at a moment’s notice’ Back in Biblical times staying with family was a huge thing and to leave the safety and comfort of one’s family was a huge thing to do.
What risks do you think you’ve taken for the Lord that you would have never tried before Jesus came into your life? Don’t be surprised if the Lord won’t challenge you to do something that is completely out of your comfort zone but the great blessing you will have as you take that risk and obey the Lord!!
