This question may challenge many of you who may be reading this post today but for arguments sake, give it some thought. Do you remember the first time you told someone besides your parents or siblings that you love them?

For me it was in the third grade during recess one day. There was a girl in my class that for some reason seriously got my attention. I said to my close friend at that time: “Tony I really love that girl in our class, Jennifer.”  

Now I understand I had no idea what love really meant or what it was back in the third grade, but it was the only word that came to my mind whenever I saw Jennifer in class or on the playground.

My friend Tony said, ‘why don’t you just tell Jennifer how you feel about her.’ I responded by saying, ‘what if she didn’t love me like I love her?’ Tony said I would never find out unless I told her.

I finally worked up the courage to tell Jennifer my feelings for her so one day while playing foursquare during recess (that will take many of you back in time) I asked Jennifer if I could talk to her and she said yes.

As we made our way across the playground, I took that huge step and told Jennifer how I felt about her. Jennifer responded back by saying, “I like you too” (notice she said like)

We sort of became an item but in less than a month, a new boy, Simon, joined our class and it wasn’t long after that, Jennifer took a liking to Simon and we were done.

Now I know it was only puppy love and even silly to talk about it but that rejection from Jennifer stayed in my heart for such a long time, and it affected how I approached loving a girl.

When I finally went back to church and was told Jesus loved me, I was very hesitant at first to believe that because I knew how bad a person I was. How could Almighty God love me, such a bad sinner?

At a time when David was in the midst of much distress, feeling overwhelmed by his enemies and many afflictions, David declared to the Lord in Psalm 13:5 “But I trust in Your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in Your salvation” (emphasis added)

I have no idea where Jennifer is today and it really doesn’t matter, for I have learned the true meaning of love and to rest in the unfailing love of the Lord, knowing He still loves me as much as he did the day I asked Him to be the Lord of my life.

February is known as the ‘love month’ because Valentines Day is celebrated on February 14^th. 26 Billion dollars was spent on Valentines Day in 2023 with 2024 expected to be much larger.

As believers we’ve received the most beautiful and forever lasting Valentine Card with what is said in God’s Word, the Bible. In His word the Lord declares He has loved us with an unfailing love.  

We will face rejection in life and that is never easy to accept but we can rest in the unfailing love of the Lord to be with us in every step we take in life. He loves you my friend and He will never reject you. Never let anyone try to tell you differently!!!
