Change?!?

On Sunday, September 22, 2024, at 5:43am we entered the season of Fall or Autumn as some choose to call it.

Fall/Autumn is the season, the time of the year when the days become shorter, and the nights become longer. It’s the season when the leaves on the trees begin to change colors and fall to the ground, causing some of the most beautiful pictures to be taken but the temperatures begin to get cooler.

For those who endured a long hot Summer, like we recently experienced this past Summer in Las Vegas, the season of Fall is more than a greatly welcomed time of relief.

The date when the official beginning of Fall started, the temperature in Las Vegas was 92 degrees. The weather man is predicting the temperatures for the first week of Fall in Las Vegas is going to run close to 100 degrees; even higher.

I began to wonder, what happened to those cool days of Fall? This past Summer was a very hot one for those of us who live in Vegas and throughout our nation. Normally I like warm days but for some reason, this past Summer was a bit too hot for me. I was more than ready for a change, for the season of Fall to begin.

I know eventually cooler days will come for those of us who live in Vegas, but why weren’t they there when Fall began? Fall, like all seasons, is a time for change, whether it be from hot to cool, or from cold to warm

It’s amazing how frustrated we get when something is supposed to change but it doesn’t, or better yet, it doesn’t happen when or the way we want the change to take place.

When I first accepted Jesus Christ into my heart and asked Him to be the Lord of my life, I was told my life was going to change and that change would be for the better.

Before I came to the Lord, I had messed up my life so much, I was more than ready for a good change in my life. After accepting Jesus into my life I instantly had a joy and peace in my heart that I never had before, which was a welcomed blessing, a welcomed change.

What was frustrating for me was some of the things I wanted the Lord to change in me didn’t take place as quickly as I wanted. I remember asking my mentor why was the Lord holding back on those changes I needed in my life.

My mentor took me to Jeremiah 29:11 where the Lord spoke His people who were in exile in Babylon for discipline purposes: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (emphasis added)

The Lord’s timing is never what we would want. The Lord is working on our lives but if the Lord made all the changes in our lives the moment we got saved, it would kill us, we couldn’t handle it.

Some definitions of the word change are: “Make someone or something different – replace something with something else” The Lord could change us in an instant but often it’s us who fight many of the changes the Lord desires to make in our lives.

Here’s the crazy thing; it won’t be long before many of us will begin complaining it’s too cold and we long for warmer days. As they say, we are never happy.

We can be assured the Lord is at work in our lives. The Lord just asks we allow Him to have free reign in our lives so the changes He desires to make in us will stay forever.
