Be the Light: Sharing Love in a Dark World

Weekly message from you children’s church leader at New Day Christian Church of Las Vegas, Michael Townsend

Greetings brothers and sisters in Christ and children of God,

In this world of hurt and pain we all seek love. We all want to be comforted when we are hurting and that can only be done through love. We are witnesses to the hurtfulness that many show to others. We were witnesses to the hateful things people say to one another, but we can be a light of hope in this world. A beacon that shines to show others where they can find refuge from the hate, the hurtfulness, and the pain. We can show them where they can find love.

We are the light of the world (Matthew 5:14). Jesus brought light into the world filled with darkness, and because the Light is in us we can shine the light for others to see by showing our love to the world. The enemy wants nothing more than to rob love from us and from the world, but the power of Christ is far too great for the enemy and through us the love of Christ can be shown to others because God is love (1 John 4:8).

We all know that God loved the world that He sacrificed his Son for us (John 3:16), but knowing it and believing it are two different things. Do you believe that God loved you enough to sacrifice his only Son for you? If so, then we are to do what all believers should do, which is to follow the commands of God. Yes, there are ten commandments and over 600 laws, but there are only two greatest commandments, and the first is to love God with all your soul, and with all your mind, and the second is to love our neighbors (Matthew 22:37-40) and our neighbors is the world, so, let us love one another (1 John 4:7).

Jesus is the light of the world, so be the light in the world and show the wicked world how much you love the people in the world. Let the enemy not rob love from you, but freely give love to those who the enemy is trying to break with darkness and hopelessness.

Kenny Rogers once wrote a song called Love Will Turn You Around, and I believe that to be true. We may not be able to extinguish the wickedness from the world, but I believe we can turn the broken into the healed by showing them love.

This month I am declaring it as the Love month. This week the little lambs will be learning about Jacob and his many sons. We will talk about how he favored one of the sons more than the others and what it did to the family. We will learn that God doesn’t have favorites and that He loves all of his children.

I look forward to worshiping with you tomorrow with songs of praise and dancing before the One who first loved you. If for whatever reason I do not see you tomorrow, may the Lord bless you with joy, peace, always love, and may he comfort you and heal you when you need it. May His Light shine upon you.

God bless you, Your brother in Christ,

Michael (aka Mr. Michael)
