This weeks message from New Day Christian Church of Las Vegas by our Children’s church leader, Michael Townsend. Sunday school is offered weekly after worship for children ages 6 and up and nursery is offered for the little ones.

Greetings brothers and sisters in Christ and children of God,

Imagine if God gave his love to all only one day out of the whole year. I suppose it would be the most anticipated day of the whole year, but just imagine what the rest of the year would be like if his love was only for one day. Sometimes I think we do that with each other. It seems that Valentine’s Day is a day where most people express their love for one another. Let me say I am not dismissing Valentine’s Day, for St. Valentine should be remembered for the works he did in the 3rd-century. I believe that all the martyred saints should be remembered for their works to bring Christ to those seeking hope and love. However, what I am saying is that the acts we do on that one day alone should be done every day.

Don’t you tend to love things that you create? God loves what He creates too, and He created you, therefore He loves you. He also created others around you, and yet He loves them just as much as He loves you. He loves the whole world so much that He sacrificed His son Jesus, whom he called His son (John 3:16, Matthew 3:17). 

God expects us to love all things that He creates, especially all the people He creates, despite their faults we call sin. For no man is greater than another, for they all fall short because of sin (Romans 3:23). There is no sin greater than another, all sin is equal in the eyes of the Lord, and so is man, and women for those who felt I was being a bit biased to one sex over the other. 

I believe we have forgotten what love is and attach the word “love” to an emotion, but love is not just a feeling or an emotion. Love is an action and therefore is seen through our actions. I do not mean actions as in getting candy, flowers, cards, or other material things. Love is about being kind to one another, it is patient, it is not boasting with pride, or easily angered. Love does not keep track of wrongs, and it does not dishonor others (1 Corinthians 13:4-6). I think the first and last are the most important in this time period.

If we replace the word “love” with God, this is who God is. God is love (1 John 4:8). We should be like God everyday and show everyone what love is and who God is. Not by material things but by actions of kindness and not dishonoring others. Therefore let us love one another (1 John 4:7), as the great commandments tell us to do; love God and love thy neighbor (Matthew 22:3-40).

I will end with this. A pastor once stood up in front of his congregation to give his sermon. He opened the bible and said one word; “love”. Then he closed the bible and sent the congregation home. That is how important love is and how powerful. The greatest of these is love (1 Corinthians 13:13).

Last week the little lambs learned about Jacob with many sons and how his love was focused more on his favorite son Joseph, which caused many family issues and lots of broken hearts on the way. We talked about how God doesn’t love just one child but all of His children. This week, to continue with our love month, we will be talking about what love is and the different types of love.

I look forward to worshiping the Master of love tomorrow with songs of praise and dancing before Him who first loved us.If for whatever reason I do not see you tomorrow, may the Lord bless you with joy and peace, and may He comfort you, heal you, and give you direction when you need it.
