Understanding Demons and Angels: A Christian Perspective from New Day Christian’s Children and Youth Ministry

Greetings, brothers and sisters in Christ and children of God,

Demons and angels, do you believe in them? If you are a Christian, you probably do. Some Christians do not believe in demons, and there are non-believers who, of course, do not believe in angels or demons, but I do believe they exist, because the bible tells me so. Yes, some might argue that man wrote the bible, but I also believe that God wrote the bible through man, but that is a discussion for another day. This week’s encouragement is on demons and angels.

Demons, according to scripture, are fallen angels who follow Satan and were cast out of heaven. Scripture also says it was a third of the angels who were cast down (Revelation 12:4-9). Satan is the master manipulator and liar whose desire is to lead the world astray and disrupt God’s plan of salvation for man through corruption by any means necessary.

We first learn about Satan in Genesis when he manipulates Eve by deceiving her and twisting God’s words around. We also see Satan in the Book of Job as he says to God that he has been roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it (Job 1:7). Satan was given authority by God to destroy all Job had, but could not lay a finger on Job (Job 1:12),  This was to test the faith of Job and his loyalty to God.

Like Satan, Christ is also seen throughout the scriptures from the beginning to the end. We see Christ in the creation (Genesis 1:26), we see Christ born in the flesh (Luke 2:6-7), and we see Christ in the end (Revelation 1:4-8).

There is always a battle going on around us. It is not a battle of flesh and blood, but a battle against the rulers, authorities, the powers of this world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 6:12). The power of heaven is greater than those of this world, so much so that even the demons tremble (James 2:19) because they believe there is a God and Christ is the Gateway to the Father.

These battles we often do not see, for they are a spiritual battle that goes on between the demons and angels. It is the job of the demon to hinder the work of the Lord, and therefore, the demon will sometimes try and prevent angels from helping us serve the Lord. One account of this is found in Daniel 10, when an angel was supposed to come to Daniel, but the prince of the Persian kingdom was against him. However, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help (Daniel 10:12-13).

If the battles are spiritual and not flesh and blood, how can we fight against the demons that we encounter in our lives? We are to be ready at all times by putting on the Armor of God, which can be found in Ephesians. Every day, we are to put on the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, and our shoes that are fit with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. We are to take up the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (Ephesians 6:13-16).

In conclusion, I will say this: if you believe in Christ, then you also need to believe in Satan and his angels, because they do exist. We, however, have a mighty Warrior who battles for us because He loves us. We must know when to call on Him, and we must be ready to stand our ground against the enemy. As a believer in Christ, you are strong, but as a non-believer, you are weak until you believe in the only One who can strengthen you.

The Lord will keep you safe, He will protect you, and guide you. When you feel you are being attacked, you most likely are, and if you call on Jesus, the enemy knows where you stand and he will flee, because they know they are beaten by the mention of His name, Jesus.

Last week, the little lambs learned about Paul and Silas and how God used them to save a jailor and his family. This week, we will take a trip back to the Old Testament as we discuss pride and the Tower of Babel.

I look forward to worshipping with you tomorrow with songs of praise to our Lord and dancing before the One who is above all things. If, for whatever reason, I do not see you, may the Lord bless you with joy and peace, and may he guide you, protect you, and comfort you when you need it.

God bless you

Your brother in Christ,

Michael (aka Mr. Michael)
