Listening to God’s Warnings: Lessons from Storms: A Message from New Day Christian Church of Las Vegas

Greetings, brothers and sisters in Christ and children of God, welcome to New Day Christian Church Children’s Ministry. The children meet upstairs and can be dropped off at 9:45 each Sunday.

There is much to be said about a winter storm hitting most of our country. This is nothing really new, as this country has seen storms like this before at some time in our history. There truly isn’t anything new under the sun (Ecclesiastes 1:9). It is expected that many will lose power for long periods. The cold is expected to be severe and has already started in most areas and will last through the weekend and possibly the remnants of the storm through the end of the month.

There have been warnings of this storm, and many seem to have heard the warnings and have taken action to prepare. The real question, however, is how did they prepare? When we have such warnings, how do we really respond to them? How do you respond to warnings? When the warning lights on your vehicle come on, do you quickly respond or ignore them?

Pharaoh was given warnings by God through Moses. He failed to recognize the warnings and chose a path that led to his fall and to the Israelites being set free. Just a part of God’s plan to show His authority over other idols and false gods.

We read throughout the Old Scriptures all the warnings that God gave to the Israelites through the prophets. He warned them what would happen if they did not change their ways. He used the enemies of the Israelites to show His control over all men, including those who did not believe in His ways.

God also used the prophets to warn of a coming Messiah. For a Christian, that was good news, but for the non-believers and the enemies of God, it was a warning to get right with God or be faced with judgment.

Christ Jesus called the disciples to teach them and sent them out into the world to preach the gospel and warn those who chose disobedience that judgment for them will one day come. They preached that the risen Christ will one day return. We are to adhere to those warnings and continue to share in the mission of God and proclaim the return of the King.

I will leave you with this last thought. Noah was called by God because he was an obedient man and considered righteous. God asked Noah to build a sanctuary for him and his family and the animals of the earth. He was also told of a storm that was to come. He began to give warnings of this storm that would flood the earth, but people refused to respond accordingly, and on the final day, they suffered judgment for their disobedience and disbelief in the one true God. Warnings are good, but only helpful if we listen. Are you listening to those warnings?

Please pray for God’s mercy on the people in the path of this storm. Not that they deserve it, but because of God’s love and grace to His children. He could calm the storm just as Jesus did with His disciples. He could just change the path of the storm. But even if He doesn’t, He is still God and His strength is mightier than any other. May He protect His children and give them strength to face their Goliath. May the warnings He gives them lead them to turn to Him in not only their physical storm but also their spiritual storm.

Last week, the little lambs were introduced to parables and what they are, and how Jesus used them to teach. One of the parables was about a lamp. Jesus is the Light of the world, and He is the light that lives in us. We are the lamp that can shine that Light in such a dark world that we live in. This week, we will be learning more parables and their meanings.

I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow. If, for whatever reason, I do not see you, may the Lord bless you with joy, peace, and happiness, and may He protect you, comfort you, and guide you when you need it.

God bless you,

Your brother in Christ,

Michael (aka Mr. Michael)
