The Greatest Love: Teaching Our Children About Christ – A Message from New Day Christian Church

Greetings, brothers and sisters in Christ and children of God,

I believe the children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way. Show them all the beauty they possess inside. Give them a sense of pride to make it easier. Let the children’s laughter remind us how we used to be. These are the words to a song written by Michael Masser and Linda Creed during the time Linda was struggling with breast cancer. The song was originally in the 1977 Muhammad Ali biopic called “The Greatest”. It was later recorded by Whitney Houston in 1985. The title of the song was “The Greatest Love of All.”

Working with children, I am often reminded of how I used to be, as I am sure you are reminded too. We do not have to work with children to smile at a child’s laughter. Just watching them in a grocery store, or a park, or on a school playground as you are driving by, and seeing them play will spark the memory of being a child. It was a time of innocence and a time of no worries. Unfortunately, today’s children do face more grief than we can imagine, and their only purpose is to learn and enjoy life. It is our purpose to allow them to enjoy life while they can and to teach them.

Everybody’s searching for a hero. People need someone to look up to. These are two more phrases of the song, and if you ask a child who their favorite hero is, you will get several heroes that they look up to. We are all looking for a hero, but children especially need someone to look up to. They need a good role model with good Christian morals that can teach them the ways of the Lord.

We are children, God’s children. The God of all creation is the Father to you and me and all the little children, because He made you, me, and the children. It is through the Father that we are taught to lead the way. It is through Him that we can see the beauty we possess inside. It is our laughter that brings the Father joy, just as the laughter of our own children brings us joy. We are all looking for a hero because we all need someone to look up to.

Jesus is the one we should be searching for, because Jesus should be our hero that we look up to and learn about the greatest love of all. God is love (1 John 4:8), and He is in you and is greater than the one who is in the world (1 John 4:4).

The chorus of the song has these words, I found the greatest love of all inside of me. The greatest love of all is easy to achieve. If you have accepted Christ as your Savior, then the Greatest Love of all is inside of you. If you have not accepted Christ, then know this: the Greatest Love of all is easy to achieve by simply saying yes to Jesus and inviting Him into your life and your heart and obeying Christ.

If you are an unbeliever, I encourage you to seek the Greatest Love of all, Jesus. If you are a believer, I encourage you to show the Greatest Love of Christ to all, especially to the children, for they are our future.

Last Week, the little lambs learned about baptism through the story of John baptizing Jesus. John did not feel worthy enough to baptize Jesus, nor did Jesus need to be baptized as he was sinless, but Jesus did it out of obedience to the Father and to set the example for all followers to truly follow Him into baptism and arise with a new beginning. This week, we will discuss how Jesus drove out the money changers from the synagogue after he arrived in Jerusalem for his final Passover meal.

I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow. If, for whatever reason, I do not see you, may the Lord bless you with love, grace, mercy, and joy, and may He heal you, comfort you, and guide you when you are in need.
