This coming Saturday July 4th our nation will be celebrating our 250th anniversary as a nation!!
Many of us will get together with family and friends for a time of celebration, eat some good, having some great fellowship and hearing those annoying illegal fireworks blasting in our neighborhoods till all hours of the morning.
I love fireworks but as I have gotten older, it seems the noise of them going off till the early hours of the morning has lost some of its flair you might say.
One thing I really enjoy is when we go to Disneyland and watch the phenomenal fireworks they display at the end of the day. It is one of the greatest fireworks displays I have ever seen. It beats the sparkers we had as kids or the smoking snake which leaves a black stain wherever they were lit.
I’ve worked at my share of church fireworks booth throughout the years, and I am shocked at how much parents will spend on fireworks to light off on the Fourth.
I remember one parent asking his only child, his 7-year-old son which fireworks he wanted to get. At that time, we had a box of fireworks which cost $100.
The young boy saw the $100 box of fireworks and pointed to it saying he wanted it. Before he was done, this father spent close to $200 on fireworks for his 7yr old son. Over 30 years ago that was a great sale for church. Sadly. in a very short time, all those fireworks were lit and gone.
In the past 250 years many men and women have paid the ultimate price in the battlefields of war so we can enjoy the freedoms we have in America. Their sacrifice was not like fireworks who once they are lit are gone. Their sacrifice has shaped who we are as Americans
Those weren’t safe and sane fireworks those men and women saw but real bombs and bullets being fired at them. That wasn’t fake blood, but real blood and lives shed for our freedoms in America.
Our country was founded on Godly principles yet, see how far we as a nation have drifted from those Godly principles, as people look to change our country.
As our nation celebrates our 250th anniversary as a nation this Fourth of July, as Christians we need to pray our hearts and our nation will turn back to the Lord. We need to pray: God will Bless America again, so we can live!!
