Do Not Fear

Are you one of those people who is a TV news talk show junkie like I am? Do you have to read the newspaper everyday as I do? If you find that you  fall into one of these categories as I did then I will be in much deep prayer for you as I hope you will likewise be in much deep prayer for me:)

All kidding aside, if you do find that you are a person like this, as I have, then we need to be careful that we don’t allow what the people on the TV news talk show say or what we read in the newspaper put fear into our hearts. As I say this I also know that it’s an easy thing to allow fear to reign in our hearts with all the bad news, deception and corruption and tragedies that we find taking place all over our nation and the world. It makes you wonder sometimes if our Lord is taking a nap, right. Living your life in fear is certainly not what the Lord desires of His people.

When Jesus had finished speaking some difficult truths to His disciples, He said to them in John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” In essence what Jesus was saying was that we, His children, were guaranteed to experience trouble in our lives; doesn’t that just make you want to jump for joy? But Jesus also gives us words of comfort to hold onto when we face our troubles, in Him we would have peace for He has overcome the world!

We find in in Deuteronomy 31 that Moses is no longer able to lead the Israelites so he  hands the reigns of leadership over to Joshua. Moses then gathers the Israelites together and tells them that they would most certainly face some strong opposition, but Mose then gives them and us today words of comfort and hope. Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” Can anyone say Amen right about now?

Psalm 46:1-3 “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.”

David says in Psalm 56:3-4When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God, whose Word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me?”

Though David faced times of fear in his life, as he was faithful to put his trust in God he was not afraid for what could mortal man do to him.

Though we may not know what the future holds for us or for our world, we have this confidence as believers that we know the One who holds the future in the palm of His hand and we place our trust in Him!

If you are not a believer than I urge you today to put your life and heart into the hands of the only One who can take you through any storm you may have to endure and who can calm your fears. Then one day, as His children we will stand in His glorious presence and discover that all that we had to face in our lifetime was worth it just to reign with our Lord forever and ever!!
