In just a few weeks, we are going to enter the wonderful season of Spring. I love the season of Spring because it normally isn’t too hot outside and the flowers are beginning to bloom, the trees are beginning to bud and the birds are singing the new songs of Spring. As much as I love Spring, I am not so excited that the allergy season also begins. Achooo!!! Sorry about that but I am just practicing for what is awaiting those of us who suffer with allergies.
Spring is the time of the year when people come out of their homes after hiding in their homes for Winter and begin to spend more time outdoors, enjoying the fresh air and all. I have found that people in general are nicer to one another in Spring and that is very refreshing to see. In Spring you will see more and more people are smiling and actually talking to one another. Spring is the season of freshness and new beginnings and wouldn’t that be wonderful if that also applied to our spiritual lives.
Too often I find my heart getting stuck in the dark cold days of Winter and before I know it, Spring has gone by and as the song says: I forgot to smell the flowers as they bloomed afresh. At times it is also the same for my spirit in the Lord. Spring brings the sunshine the flowers desperately need to bloom their beautiful petals for all of us to enjoy. You have heard it said, Spring is in the air! What that is saying is that new fresh growth is about to take place and the birds are about to bring songs of life!
Sadly, too many Christians, including myself, have allowed themselves to get stuck in the dark cold days of Winter and they fail to allow the new growth the Lord has been doing in those dark days of Winter to come forth for all to enjoy.
Psalm 33:3 “Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy” David writes in Psalm 40:3a “He (Lord) put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God” Psalm 98:1a “Sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things.”
Being a musician, I always love hearing any new song that comes from the hands and minds of great song writers. Though there are always new songs being played, only a select few from the hands of skillful song writers last. The Scriptures speak of a new song the Lord has placed in our hearts, a hymn of praise unto Him for the marvelous things He has done in our lives. It is a song of freshness and growth of what the Lord revealed to us in the dark cold season of Winter of life. The problem is that too often we fail to learn the new song the Lord is wanting to teach us in our Winter times in life because we have failed to see the Lord was there with us in our season of Winter.
It’s in the air my friend! Spring is about to come upon us and the new flowers and buds are about to burst forth in all their beauty for us to enjoy. What’s in the air for you would you say this Spring? What new song are you singing of the Lord’s faithfulness and marvelous work in your life for all to hear?
The Lord declares in Isaiah 43:19 “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland” It’s in the air my fiend, or better yet, it’s in our hearts!!!
