Be Mine!!

I just read that Necco candies had recently gone out of business. Necco candy wafers are my most favorite candy of all time. Necco candies also made those small Valentine candy hearts that many of us enjoyed around Valentine’s Day. Many of us would give those popular little conversation heart candies, which had words of love on  them, to special people in our lives. I remember when I gave one of those little conversation heart candies to my first crush in school; I believe it was in the 3rd grade. The saying on the little heart candy I gave her said; Be Mine! ( I know, very corny)

The company which bought Necco candies, said they would not be able to provide those favorite conversation heart candies in time for this Valentine’s Day but wanted to assure us they would be out in time for Valentine’s Day 2020. So what are we to do in the meantime???

When you are  in the third grade, just talking to a girl can send most boys into a state of great anxiety, much less tell them anything like what those little conversation heart candies said. It was much easier giving them the little heart candy and let it speak for us, right

I remember in my early days of being a Christian, someone telling me that the Bible is a love letter to anyone who would take the time to read it and believe what it said. A whole lot better than any little heart candy could do.

I so wanted that pretty little girl in school in the third grade to ‘Be Mine’ but sad to say, she took my candy, ate it and failed to ‘Be Mine,’ my first taste of rejection, with more to follow in life.

The Lord declared a promise to the nation of Israel, that remains true today and it is a promise that we must never forget. Isaiah 43:1b “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are Mine” Psalm 147:11 “The Lord delights in those who fear (have reverence) Him, who put their hope in His unfailing love” Our earthly love can be very fickle at times. In fact I would go as far as saying our earthly love is very conditional, but not the love of our Lord.

The Apostle Paul declares in Romans 8:39 “Neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord If that doesn’t give you much hope my dear friend, then you need examine your heart. The Lord loves us, in spite of everything we do at times to displease Him.

The Lord declares in Revelation 3:20Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and open the door, I will come in and eat with him and he with Me” The door represents our heart and if we would open our hearts to the Lord, he would come into our life and eat or have fellowship with Him. In other words my friend, the Lord is saying, we would be His!!

Necco may have gone out of business and we may never have wonderful little conversation hearts to give to those special people in our lives, but we have something much better and that will never go out of business, the Bible, the Lord’s love letter to all mankind, which is sweeter than candy.

Psalm 119:103 “How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”
