One year I had the privilege to take about 15 young people, along with 5 leaders on a two-week mission trip to Estonia for the Lord. I am not much of a traveler, but it was a very faith building trip for me and the rest of the group.

My son was one of the 15 young people on this trip and that made the trip very special for me. One of the leaders on this trip had been to Estonia numerous times so it was great having him along to help guide us and show us the ropes.

We stayed at a YWAM two story facility in the forest area of Estonia, and it was a very nice place to stay. We were assigned an Estonian interpreter, a young lady, to help us wherever we had the opportunity to minister

During the two weeks we were in Estonia, everyone became very close friends with our interpreter. She was a very nice girl, and she was a tremendous help when we ministered, whether it was in a local church or as we did street ministry.

One thing which caught my eye as we drove to our main base each day was the beautiful yellow flowers which were all over the open spaces. They were such a beautiful bright shade of yellow, you couldn’t help but notice them.

One morning as my son and myself, along with our interpreter, were having coffee outside our base camp, I asked our interpreter what kind of flower it was which was all over those large areas, because they were so beautiful. Our interpreter looked at me and began to laugh. I wasn’t trying to be funny, I just wanted to know.

Our interpreter said what I thought were beautiful bright yellow flowers were wild weeds which grew all over the open spaces, which tried to take over the gardens.

Isn’t that just the way our enemy works. He makes what is so bad for our lives, look so beautiful, seem so appealing to the eye and tries to use it to take over our life

David writes in Psalm 37:20 “But the wicked shall perish; The Lord’s enemies will be like the beauty of the fields, they will vanish – vanish like smoke” (emphasis added)

What may seem like beauty to us can be very deadly and damaging to our lives. What beauty is currently capturing your eye? Have you sought the Lord to see if it’s from Him? Be careful, the deceiver is always at work to trick us so we will fall!
