As I was driving home the other day, I had to stop at Sams Club to get something and as I walked into the store, I was immediately confronted by the spirit of Halloween.

There were some scary decorations on display to purchase. As I walked by those decorations on my way to where I needed to go, I noticed a very young boy with his mom staring at all those scary Halloween decorations. I thought for a moment about the message all that scary display was sending to this young boy and the effect it would have on him.

I grew up watching scary movies and let me say, it put a very negative perspective on my mind which lingered on into my adult life. I had such a very bad spirit of fear in my heart from watching all those scary movies. I often wished I hadn’t watched them.  

I never like being frightened or watching others frighten people. They think it’s fun to do that but it isn’t to the person being frightened.

I am amazed how many people like watching very scary movies; the scarier the better they say. Yet those very same people end up having bad fear issues because of that and they fail to recognize that.

There is a healthy fear that is beneficial for our lives. The Bible talks about having a fear of the Lord which means having a reverence for the Lord in our hearts and minds.

Proverbs 19:23 NKJV “The fear of the Lord leads to life and he who has it will abide in satisfaction; he will not be visited by evil” (emphasis added)

There is another fear that is not beneficial for our lives and the sooner we deal with the better our lives will be.

2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (emphasis added)

The enemy would love if we functioned in that spirit of fear as believers. We would be ineffective and powerless against his schemes. Let’s determine to have to have the fear of the Lord in our life not Satan’s fear!!
